Strawberry Syrup Recipe

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Strawberries:
Wash, hull, and slice the fresh strawberries to get them ready for the syrup.
  2. Cook the Strawberries:
In a medium saucepan, combine the strawberries, sugar, and water. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
  3. Simmer:
Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the strawberries break down and the syrup thickens slightly.
  4. Mash the Strawberries:
Use a potato masher or the back of a spoon to mash the strawberries to your preferred consistency. For a smoother syrup, blend the mixture with an immersion blender.
  5. Strain (Optional):
If you prefer a smooth, clear syrup, strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove the strawberry solids.
  6. Add Lemon Juice (Optional):
Stir in lemon juice if using. This adds a touch of tartness and balances the sweetness.
  7. Cool:
Let the syrup cool to room temperature.
  8. Store:
Transfer the cooled syrup into a clean jar or bottle and refrigerate. The syrup will keep for up to 2 weeks in the fridge.
