Directions:

- In a bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, garlic salt, and onion powder.
- Add Wet Ingredients:
- Add the egg and milk to the dry ingredients.
- Mix the Batter:
- Stir the mixture well until it reaches the consistency of bread batter. If the batter is too thin, add more cornmeal or flour to thicken.
- Heat Oil:
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or a large skillet to 375°F (190°C).
- Fry Hush Puppies:
- Drop the batter by teaspoonfuls into the hot oil.
- Cook Until Golden:
- Cook until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
- Drain and Serve:
- Remove hush puppies from the oil and drain on paper towels.
