Christmas Candy Apples

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Apples:
    • Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Removing all moisture is crucial to ensure the candy coating sticks properly.
    • Remove the stems and insert wooden sticks into the top of each apple.
  2. Prepare Candy Coating:
    • In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup, and water.
    • Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
    • Once the sugar is fully dissolved, stop stirring and let the mixture come to a boil.
    • Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature and heat the mixture until it reaches 300°F (the hard crack stage).
  3. Add Color and Flavor:
    • Once the temperature reaches 300°F, remove the saucepan from the heat.
    • Stir in the red food coloring and vanilla extract (if using) until the mixture is well combined.
  4. Coat the Apples:
    • Working quickly, dip each apple into the candy mixture, swirling it to coat evenly.
    • Let any excess candy drip back into the pot, and place the apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet to cool.
    • If desired, sprinkle holiday sprinkles onto the apples while the coating is still warm to add a festive touch.
  5. Cool and Set:
    • Allow the candy-coated apples to cool completely and harden before serving.
  6. Serve:
    • Once fully set, your Christmas candy apples are ready to enjoy or share with friends and family!
