Instructions:
- Prepare the Apples:
- Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. This is important to ensure the candy coating sticks properly.
- Remove any stems and insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple, pushing it in far enough to hold the apple securely.
- Prepare the Baking Sheet:
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat and set aside. This will prevent the candied apples from sticking to the surface.
- Make the Candy Coating:
- In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, light corn syrup, and water. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat without stirring. Attach a candy thermometer to the side of the pan to monitor the temperature.
- When the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage), remove it from the heat and quickly stir in the red food coloring.
- Coat the Apples:
- Working quickly, dip each apple into the hot candy mixture. Tilt the pan as needed to coat the apple completely.
- Allow any excess candy to drip off before placing the coated apple on the prepared baking sheet.
- If desired, decorate with candy decorations or sprinkles while the coating is still sticky. This step adds a fun, festive touch to your apples.
- Let Cool:
- Allow the candied apples to cool completely at room temperature until the candy coating is hard. This usually takes about 30 minutes to an hour.
- Serve:
- Once the candy coating is fully set, the apples are ready to be enjoyed! Serve them at your Halloween party or package them individually for a spooky, sweet gift.
